FLOW Cities

The 6 FLOW cities are partners of the project. They will implement the new state-of-the art in congestion reduction, developed by FLOW, through implementation scenarios and action plans for introducing or upscaling cycling and walking measures that are shown to reduce congestion.

Macroscopic/Microscopic modelling

According to which tool is best suited to reach their goals in FLOW, the FLOW cities are focusing on macroscopic and/or microscopic modelling. Macro-modelling is tailored to improve strategic planning, it is particularly useful to represent large networks (cities and regions) and multimodal demand modelling. Micro-modelling is best suited to improve operational planning, it is particularly useful to represent smaller networks (such as a single intersection) or for instance the simulation and interaction between single vehicles and pedestrians.

For cities

FLOW supported systematic knowledge transfer with a group of Exchange and Follower cities in assessing the effectiveness of walking and cycling measures to address urban congestion.

For decision makers

The FLOW project dedicated particular attention to decision makers and politicians as they are the ones taking the strategic decision to integrate a measure into the local policy.
For businesses

Private sectors has, in its field of competences, a key role to play in reducing congestion and promoting walking and cycling in cities. The tools they propose may not be known by the end users.
